Lyudmila Kalinichenko
Photography, video, installation
"Internet utopia has ceased to be a concept and has become a reality, as common as a pile of dirty dishes. It is easier for me to use # hashtags, they are more # understandable and filled with common sense. The necessary information finds me. Google. My focus for today is food-internet-food. Сopy & Paste is a trend, the foundation of the world view. I subscribe to the channel, I put "like"- this short paragraph contains the entire philosophy of Lyudmila Kalinichenko. Her creative search today is largely intuitive, but focused on specific issues. Among other things, she is interested in the study of the importance of the "copy & paste" method in modern communications and aesthetic post-internet possibilities, observation of the performative nature of image and art form mutation, the interpretation of a symbol and the search for the traditional in the current culture.
"Household Surrealism", created in cooperation with curator Ksenia Larina (Nizhny Tagil) was one of the first serious projects by Kalinichenko. "Photography opened up from a completely different angle, becoming not just a way to record the moment, but the strongest means of communication with the outside world. Thus, a photo has created the artist. Today, I work with media, studying the transformation of a flat image into a multi-dimensional one and from multi-dimensional to digital by constantly moving objects in these media. On the one hand, this is an attempt to erase spatial boundaries, on the other – the search for their interaction".
In 2017 the main project of the 4th Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art featured Lyudmila Kalinichenko's large-scale installation "The Room of Desires". It was dedicated to the topic of online superstitions in the worldwide web and the typical strife of a person for happiness, love and prosperity.
After the portfolio review of the "Start" project which took place within the 4th Ural Industrial Biennial, Lyudmila Kalinichenko received an invitation for a personal exhibition in the center of contemporary art "WINZAVOD", where her project, called "500 Meters Online" highlighted the phenomenon of rubbish and its material nature. In this project the author treats rubbish as a physical trace left by a person in the real world even when he/she is online.
Subsequently, this project was included in the exhibition "Big Country - Great Ideas" in the framework of the mobile symposium NEMOSKVA.
